Our Story

Youth Gravity (YG) is a completely youth-led, youth-initiated, non-partisan group aimed towards building a platform to support racialized youth leaders with amplifying their voices and advocating for their communities. Youth Gravity serves youth ages from 14 to 29 years old from different walks of life, including those who self-identify as belonging to marginalized or racialized groups.

Our mission is to ensure that the youth within our communities (different areas, ethno-cultural background, etc.) are empowered and that they have equal access to leadership, positive community engagement and community development opportunities that reflect the needs of the local youth.

Youth Gravity has started its journey in November of 2016. It was founded by Sal-Sabila at the age of 16. She was only 14 years old when the idea came to her mind. Having a strong essence of building a community of young leaders, looking for a voice for herself and the youth, has led her to start her own path. Currently, Youth Gravity is serving different communities across the GTA. Youth Gravity is aimed towards building a platform for young leaders to bring forward their passionate project ideas.

Our Impact

Since 2016, we’ve lead over 20 projects, received over $200,000 in funding, and engaged with over 600 participants (and counting)

Youth Gravity’s overall purpose is to build capacity among youth leadership to address the needs that racialized youth (14-29 years old) have and express within their communities. After a short hiatus, we are excited to continue offering various leadership opportunities and safe spaces.

"I have been supporting Youth Gravity since Day One. I have seen this organization grow. The team Is well organized, well managed, well planned and works with utmost sincerity... the team members become your family. Youth Gravity is a family I will never let go of. I encourage anyone and everyone to be part of Youth Gravity."

“I volunteered at Youth Gravity from 2018-2019 working as a communications co-manager alongside a fellow member, Aisha Chohan. The sense of inclusivity, care and comradeship that all Youth Gravity members showed one another was just amazing! Youth Gravity is not only a professional grassroots organization, it is also a place that fosters self-growth, creates a sense of belongingness in the community, a place where we learn and acquire new skills together and an incredibly flexible opportunity for anyone that is juggling other life responsibilities."

Gianella Lazaro

During my time working at Youth Gravity, I was able to learn so much. I was challenged in many ways such as stepping out of my comfort zone to facilitate workshop Zoom conversations with youth, to learning how to use different software programs for reports or meetings, to outreaching and more. I was met with a lot of encouragement, enthusiasm and kindness by everyone on the team... I can't express my gratitude enough to everyone on the team.
